World of Choices Summit (WOCS)

Program for 10-12

World of Choices prepares youth for the future of work by providing students with learning opportunities to build transferable skills and explore career paths.

JA Canada is partnering with Colleges and Institutes Canada to host Skilled Trades Summits across the country. By providing a hands-on experience, students will enhance their understanding and knowledge of skilled trades as a meaningful and fulfilling career path.

Next Summit details:

Date: May 16 & 17, 2024

Time: 10am to 2pm

Location: NSCC Cumberland Campus (Springhill, Nova Scotia)

BONUS MODULE: Career Exploration. The Career Exploration Centre will provide supplement learning as well as introductory learning for students’ in grades 8-12.

Program Overview

Learning Experience Highlights:

  • Learn about diverse opportunities in the trades sector and the training, experience and education required for various trades careers
  • Understand the in-demand opportunities in manufacturing, construction and mechanical trades
  • Learn the importance of transferable skills and how to develop them
  • Develop skills through hands-on immersive learning experiences facilitated by college instructors in learning labs
  • Participate in a practical career planning exercise

Morning Registration

Welcome – 60 minute welcome and presentations from inspirational trades speakers

Session 1 – 40 minute tour of college and hands-on lab experience facilitated by college skilled trades instructors with apprenticeship pathways

Session 2 – 40 minute tour of college and hands-on lab experience facilitated by college skilled trades instructors with apprenticeship pathways

Lunch – 30 minutes

Session 3 – 40 minute tour of college and hands-on lab experience facilitated by college skilled trades instructors with apprenticeship pathways

Closing – 30 minutes
