World of Choices Virtual Events (WOCVE)

Program for 8-12

World of Choices enables students to learn first-hand what it takes to be successful in a chosen career by connecting career mentors with students. This year, this full morning event will introduce youth to an array of pathways, with a focus on Skilled Trades. Students will discover a world of career choices open to them and the education paths that will support them in achieving their career goals.

The 2024 dates for the virtual events are:

  • May 7th – Building Spaces. Explore the art of constructing pieces, areas, or even entire ships & buildings. Skilled tradespeople will share their expertise on becoming a master at engineering different structures.
  • May 22nd – Talking Tech. Learn about using state-of-the-art tech and leading communication methods to support a multitude of businesses. Field professionals share the benefits of learning telecommunication trades.
  • May 30th – Service Excellence. Learning to balance focus and sociability is key to providing stellar customer support while completing the service itself efficiently. Speakers will discuss the skills to excel in a variety of customer-facing roles. 
  • 5 juin – En Français. Les professionnels du commerce partageront les avantages et les défis de rôles variées. 

BONUS MODULE: Career Exploration. The Career Exploration Centre will provide supplement learning as well as introductory learning for students’ in grades 8-12.

Program Overview

By participating students will:

  • Recognize how transferable skills including communication, creativity, digital literacy, adaptability and financial health can enable career success.
  • Explore potential career pathways including opportunities in skilled trades categories (construction, manufacturing and automotive).
  • Increase their understanding of education, training pathways, and skills required for future work.
  • Be empowered to succeed in designing a career path.
  • Discover educational opportunities and training.

Students will learn:

  • Hosted conversations with four career mentors in 19 minute sessions; a 15 minute hosted conversation with the career mentor and a 3 minute Q&A with career mentors representing a variety of fields.
  • Inspiring speakers presenting their education and career paths.
  • Interactions with career path representatives from post-secondary schools and other organisations.
  • Information on transferable skills, labour market insights and various trades and career options.
